Who We Are

We are parents and teachers who have negotiated the pitfalls of the New York City public and private school system. Along the way we developed a mode of study strategies through the coaching of Wall Street traders that we applied to our children. We have seen first hand the success of this motivational game - playing strategy. Choose to help your children succeed - give them the gift of competitive EDGE.

Harley  Evans / Founder and President

A member of the Wall Street community for over 15 years. A past member of the American Stock Exchange and Chicago Board of Trade: trading derivative products for clients and his own account.  Harley was also the co-founder of an investment strategy research group called The Alpha Generation.com. He privately coaches Wall Street traders to help them stay on top of their game and to help them master the risk - reward scenario. He has been involved in educational research from the time he was a graduate student in Social Sciences at the University of Chicago until today. He enjoys helping children and parents navigate the educational resources of New York City.

This path started in 1986, when his youngest brother showed signs of “special” talent. He could read at 3, taught himself Spanish at 4 and to play the piano by 6. He entered kindergarten and was labeled a trouble maker by first grade. He explained, to anyone who would listen, that school was boring. The Evans family was perplexed. The younger brother was finally tested in third grade to find his IQ  above 170. He was moved into a special program 3 days a week the next year. It was basically too late. He had already lost 4 years of motivation and viewed the school system as dull and unfulfilling.

Over time, seeing the family’s disappointment in the educational system, Harley studied the academic research on “giftedness” and learning challenges for children including those with ADD. He used the literature to develop motivational strategies that were eventually applied to trading. Trading is laden with disappointment and fertile ground for individuals in need of motivation.

Harley has children ranging from preschool to college and presently in a G&T program in NYC. He almost lost this child to the boredom of the NYC school system. Applying the trader's motivational program and theory of focus it was found to be fun for children. We are sharing this unique program with others to motivate them to seek success. We believe we need to give our children the best education possible for their skill set. The answer starts with us, as parents, taking the first step to keep them motivated and to eliminate the negative thoughts that prevent them from reaching their potential. At Manhattan Edge, we are passionate about our curriculum to motivate youth to reach that potential.
